Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport
Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) is the main airport in Hungary and is located 9.94 miles (16 km) to the southeast of Budapest. With over 13 million passengers annually, it is the busiest airfield in Hungary.
Formerly known as Ferihegy Airport, Ferenc Liszt Airport comprises a single terminal divided into two sections: 2A and 2B. If you don't find your flight displayed on the screens in one section (2A), don't worry. Flights departing from the other section (2B) may not appear on those screens.
How to Get from the Airport to the Budapest City Center
To get from the Budapest airport to the city center, you've got several options:
Transfer Service
When you book the transfer service, a driver will greet you at the airport with a personalized sign, ensuring a seamless journey to your hotel with no unexpected costs. Book your private transport service from the airport to Budapest through this link. Not only is it a cost-effective choice, but it's also the most convenient and hassle-free!
Terravision Bus
Enjoy a budget-friendly (the journey costs € 10 (US$ 10.50)) and comfortable way to reach your hotel from the airport. The bus makes five stops at various locations throughout the city, with the entire journey to the final stop taking approximately 90 minutes.
Bus 200E
This is the cheapest option to get to the center of Budapest. It departs from the airport and takes you to the Köbánya-Kispest metro station, the first stop on line 3 (blue).
The bus takes 25 minutes and costs 530 Ft (US$ 1.35) (700 Ft (US$ 1.79) if purchased directly on the bus, but you can use a transport pass).
If you arrive in Budapest at night, there's the Night Bus 900, which makes four trips at midnight to the Köbánya-Kispest metro station. At the station, you'll have to take another night bus to get to the center (bus 950 or 950A).
Train
The train is also a fast and cheap option. For 300 Ft (US$ 0.76) and in only 25 minutes it will leave you in the center of Budapest at the Western Railway Station. The train doesn't go directly to the airport—you'll have to take bus 200E to the Ferihegy stop.
The train operates daily from 9 am to 10 pm.
Taxi
Cab fare varies depending on your destination within Budapest, which is divided into four zones. Prices range from 5,000 Ft (US$ 12.82) to 10,000 Ft (US$ 25.65).
Before getting into a taxi, you'll need to specify your destination at a designated stand outside the airport. If the meter exceeds the predetermined fare, you'll only pay the agreed-upon price.
For trips from Budapest to the airport, fares are determined solely by the taximeter reading, as there are no fixed rates for this route.
Minibus Service
The fare per person is 4,000 Ft (US$ 10.26) for a one-way trip. There's a slight discount available when purchasing a round-trip ticket.
While the minibus service offers drop-off and pickup directly at your hotel, it involves significant delays as the driver makes additional stops to pick up other passengers. This can take a considerable amount of time, and the cost for two people ends up being comparable to that of a taxi. We advise against choosing this option.
